About Middle School Maze

Middle school can feel like a maze. New teachers, missing assignments, changing friendships, social media, and growing independence can leave parents wondering what to handle first.

That’s why Middle School Maze was created.

I’m Sunny O’Hara, an author and recently retired school counselor with more than 25 years of experience helping students and families navigate the middle school years. The concerns I’ve heard from parents and students over the years have shaped the practical resources you’ll find here.

Together, the Middle School Maze Team and I create parent-friendly guides, checklists, and articles written in warm, everyday language, without confusing educational jargon. Our goal is to help parents feel more prepared, more confident, and less alone as they support their middle schoolers through the academic, social, and emotional changes these years can bring.

Middle school will still have a few twists, turns, and head-scratching moments. That’s part of the journey. But you don’t have to navigate it without guidance.
